The mission of the Bak MSOA Math Department is to provide an educational experience in mathematics that helps students prepare for successful roles in a demanding, ever-changing society. This will be accomplished through our commitment to excellent teaching, a well-designed curriculum, and a supportive environment for all of our “Stars.”
Students at each grade level will be challenged to develop their skills in analysis, reasoning, creativity, collaborative learning, and self-expression as they gain knowledge of mathematics. Course offerings range from Intensive Math to High School Algebra1 Honors and Geometry Honors. We will maintain high academic and behavioral expectations and make every classroom minute count.
In order to support students who need extra assistance, we offer special programs throughout the year. Tutorials and homework help are scheduled through our Curtain Calls program. Also, after-school mentoring opportunities are scheduled several times during the year.
We have also been very pleased with the exemplary performance of our students in the statewide FCAT testing and extracurricular competitions. The Math Academic Equations Team competes through mid-October. This past year, the 6th grade team took the top six spots in the District. Our 7th & 8th grade team placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. From November through February, students practice for Mathcounts. Our Bak Team has been the County Champions for the past three years. At the end of the school year, students participate in the District’s Math Tournament. Again, our students did an outstanding job, with our 7th grade representatives earning 1st, 2nd, and 5th place, and an 8th grader won the 8th grade level and the overall tournament for the third year in a row.
The Bak MSOA Math Department hopes that together, we can compel our students to feel empowered to attain the highest possible achievement in mathematics
