Bak Middle School of the Arts and Morikami Park Elementary School have each been recognized as 2020 Exemplary High Performing National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education. Nationally, 367 schools received the honor, and only 11 schools in Florida.

"Being recognized as an Exemplary High Performing National Blue Ribbon School for 2020 is a great honor and a testament to the hard work, effort, and dedication of the school personnel, students, parents, Bak PTO, and MSOA Foundation," said Sally Rozanski, the principal at Bak Middle. "The harmony of the arts and academics, along with the support of the Bak Family, creates an educational masterpiece!"

The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.

In a letter from U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, she commended each school “...for striving to do what’s right for your students and to personalize instruction to meet your students’ unique needs and strengths. Thank you for what you do to help your students realize their potential and achieve their dreams.”

Now in its 38th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed almost 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools, with some schools winning multiple awards. The 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony will be held virtually on November 12 and 13.
